March 24th: Open enrollment
Sept 15th: Enrollment required for filings
Dec 19th: Renew EDGAR entitlements

The SEC is adopting rule and form amendments that concern access to and management of the EDGAR system. Collectively known as EDGAR Next, these enhancements seek to improve security and modernize the ability for filers to manage their EDGAR accounts.

For filers, the big pivot will be in how firms access EDGAR. The use of firm-level CIK and password authentication is being discontinued in favor of individual account administrators who will login individually (including a new multi-factor authentication method) to act on behalf of filers to enroll and submit filings on EDGAR Next.

Starting on March 24th, filers will have the ability to enroll in EDGAR Next. By September 15th, this enrollment will be necessary submit any filing within EDGAR. If enrollment is not done by December 19th, then firms will need to apply anew to regain EDGAR entitlements.

Prepare

You should identify who will act as an authorized administrator for your firm. This can be an employee, officer, filing agent, or other trusted entity. Filers are required to have two administrators (unless you are a single-member company). These administrators must create a Login.gov user instance.

Instructions to create a Login.gov user can be found here.

Gather your existing EDGAR credentials, (CIK, CCC, passphrase) and ensure they are still valid.

Once your resources are gathered and administrators designated, determine and authorize who will enroll in EDGAR Next on your firm’s behalf. Each filer may enroll only once.

How we can help:
